Countdown to the World Cup: Final Draw on Friday
There are just four days to go to the final team draw for the Football World Cup in South Africa and the countdown is on for an estimated 500 000 fans worldwide for tickets, flights and accommodation.
On December 4 we'll know when, where and against which teams the footballers will play in the preliminaries. "The logistics for this World Cup are enormously complicated - not only for the South African stadium and street-builders but also for us tour operators," says World Cup project leader at TARUK International based near Berlin, Johannes Haape.
TARUK has not only chartered 63 buses in South Africa, but has also booked thousands of hotel rooms in the heart of the World Cup and has over 2 000 return flights under contract. Haape is convinced that they'll all be snapped up. Preliminary bookings have been running well and demand shows a great interest from fans around Europe.
The South African born Haape says: "We've become experts over the last decades in the South African tourism market so we've developed a super strategy for the World Cup which is based on our firm's core philosophy: We're ensuring that football fans have the chance to supplement a great World Cup experience with a Safari or other tourist highlights typical of this beautiful country.
"Tours have been designed for every type of visitor - and to suit every budget. Tours range from eight to 101 days - from reasonably-priced through to "Deluxe". Safaris have even been booked in neighbouring Namibia and Botswana.
TARUK International takes more than 70 groups into Southern Africa each year, so has built up a great network of partners in the Southern African tourism industry. "Thanks to this, we can promise the best tour-guides, the most interesting safaris and country-typical hotels and guesthouses so fans can enjoy a glimpse into the country and the lives of the people in South Africa. All in all, we're making sure that this will be an unforgettable World Cup experience for thousands of fans," he says.
